Let’s Play! Yoga & Belly Dance Workshop: All Levels
What is it, and who is it for?
Too often we take exercise too seriously. Join us for a week-long, playful workshop where we will connect with our bodies, breath, and femininity!
Women-identifying persons may feel more comfortable, as we are cultivating a feminine energy, but anyone is welcome!
We welcome all levels. Never done belly dance before? Good!
What will we do?
Instructors will guide you in daily Vinyasa style yoga as well as belly dancing. Optional meditation, mindfulness and Yin classes will be offered each night as well.
The belly dance classes will be geared for beginners, and all classes and energy healing sessions are optional.
For our beginner belly dance class, we will work on a choreography that you can take home!
What is included in the price?
- Accommodation at Norma’s Villas
- Three meals/day (please let us know if you have special dietary needs)
- Daily yoga sessions
- Belly dance classes
- Optional Reiki energy sessions
- Transport to and from Jaco beach during our “beach day”
- Beach chair and umbrella on beach day
What is not included?
- Plane ticket to Costa Rica
- Airport transportation (we can provide for $10 from SJO, but not Liberia)
- Surf lessons during beach day
- Outside food/alcohol
- Entrance to La Paz Waterfall Gardens (if you’d like to go!)
Who are the Instructors?
Lisa Martens – 200 hr RYT from Nexus Institute for Yoga and Wellness. She took up belly dancing as a way to help manage her PTSD and reconnect with her body. She primarily studies and dances with the Bellyqueen Dance School in New York City, and has also studied with Rachel Brice, Dalia Carella, and Colleena Shakti. She works with her grandma at Norma’s Villas and is always looking to bring people to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Ask her any Costa Rica-related questions!
Jessica Onstad – 200 hr RYT from Nexus Institute for Yoga and Wellness. Her inquiry of yoga has spanned the last 10 years of her life, with most focus being placed on Vinyasa flow style yoga and Yin styles. Jessica has a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering and works for a large engineering firm in the United States. She enjoys traveling, learning about cultures and staying active.

Ariana works as a TV writer, VO performer and professional coach. As an artist, she’s written for IFC and TruTV’s ‘Almost Genius’ and lent her voice to Toys R’ Us and Nick. As a coach, Ariana’s certified through the ICF and Coaching for Transformation program. She’s spoken on mental health in the arts with the Observer, Matthew Shepard Foundation and works with creatives to overcome blocks and create their most truthful art.
Week 1: January 3-10
Acting Exercises for the Creative Writer
Leader: Isabelle Pierre
In Acting Exercises for the Creative Writer, we’ll explore how actors use physical exercises (including Laban, Lecoq, psychology gesture and improv) to explore character. Come ready to move, play and feel a little silly. At the end of the week we’ll have a short reading based workshop discoveries.
Week 2: January 12- 19
Fundamentals of Comedy
Leader: Ginny Leise
Humor is a most beloved yet often intimidating genre. As a comedian, I am endlessly frustrated when, after a show, friends and strangers alike approach me to explain why they couldn’t ever do comedy.
Everybody is funny and has a funny a story to tell. This workshop will aim to instill writers with confidence in their own unique comedic voice. We will start with the foundations of Comedy 101, examples of the greats and then jump into our own personal essays and storytelling performances. The workshop will culminate in a show for every participant to read or perform their work.
Week 3: January 21-28
Success through Self-Publishing

Have you ever thought about self-publishing, but felt that you weren’t tech savvy? Robert Kroese will cover the ins and outs of self publishing, including the differences between self-publishing and traditional publishing, e-book formatting, distribution, and marketing your book.
