Things to do at and around Norma’s Villas
We are often asked for details on what is available for our guests in our area, and places to go while visiting with us. To help give you a better idea here are some suggestions and recommendations from ourselves and previous guests.
At Normas
At Norma’s Villas, we have swimming pools for every type (even the little ones!), a tennis court, a small park and soccer field, and plenty of trees and animals for the nature-hungry visitor to explore…all without leaving the grounds Exploring the gated community is safe and many children feel a sense of adventure exploring the fruit trees, flowers, and small creek that runs through the property (to be honest, even adults seem to feel this sense of adventure).
While at Norma’s relaxing at the hammock hut in the shade, it is easy to get lost in a good book.
Walking Distance
When at Norma’s Villas, there are several restaurants and bars only walking distance from our location.
Norma’s is also located along a major bus-line from Alajuela and Atenas, which makes it easy to get around and explore without a car. Some suggested
dinning locations include La Fiesta de Maiz (they make nearly everything out of corn!), Laguna, La Casa de Vino, and the Plaza (which is right
by the local soccer field). Laguna and the Plaza are easily walked. There is also a mini-market less than 200 meters away that offers some
food and day-to-day convenience goods.
Within a two hour drive:

Cities and towns near La
Garita:
Alajuela is the 2nd largest city
in Costa Rica. The city’s center features a beautiful historic church and central
park, and also has large markets that are open on weekends. The International
Mall is located in Alajuela, and has many of the stores and brands that
would be familiar to North Americans and European guests.
Atenasis a town located Southwest of La Garita in the mountains. This town is known for its laid back and friendly residents. Formally, Atenas was a large coffee producing town, and visitors can still see fields of coffee here.
Turrucareslocated south of La Garita, is our neighboring town. Common sights here are horses and motorcycles, and the town is relatively small. There are two supermarkets here and the Banco Nacional, a bank which features a 24 hr ATM that dispenses colones (the national currency of Costa Rica). Turrucares also has some of the best Salchicha (pork) in all of Costa Rica.
